Lost in a Sea of White (OPEN)

Northernlight let out a vicious snarl, she released her claws and dug them into the snow covered ground with vindictive pleasure. The anger and frustration welling up inside the she cat was at the breaking point. Freezingwind and Northernlight had made their way through RiverClan territory rather blindly due tot he ever increasing winds that tore at their pelts like a blood thirsty hound. The pair fought through it and tracked down a family of rabbits that had barricaded themselves in a den to protect themselves from the storm. They didn't dare bury their prey in case they lose it so there they were, two dark pelted cats struggling through a white out with rabbits clamped between their jaws.

Panting from his struggle through the winds, Freezingwind put down his kills and tried to catch his breath. He glared at his sister with luminous green eyes. "We have to get back to camp! The storm is getting worse! Soon we won't be able to find out way back, if we aren't already lost!" The tom paused, taking in the little of the scenery that was visible through the storm. "Are we even in RiverClan any more?" He meowed loudly, trying to make himself heard over the raging winds.

Northernlight paused when her brother did, not wanting to risk losing sight of him in the storm. The hiss that she had been restraining broke free with a vengeance. She turned sharply, similar green eyes flashing dangerously as her hissing escalated along with the storm around then. "Would you shut up! I'm trying to find our way back to camp and all you have been doing for the last hour is complain!" She snarled, fed up with her brother and the stupid storm. She just wanted to get back to camp and sleep. "Look, I think I see the Babbling Brook over there. I think I remember seeing a den among the rocks there, so we find the den and sit out the storm until it gets a little better, alright?" She hissed, wanting more than anything to just curl up and rest.

Flamestep and Lilymist trekked through the mountainous piles of snow that covered the forest floor. Wind whipped around, stinging their faces. "There's too much snow!" Lilymist called out, turning to Flamestep and setting down a mouse she had tracked down earlier. "We need to go back to camp, before we freeze to death!" Flamestep stopped walking and nodded, "I know"

"I think that camp is this way!" he called, continuing on and pushing against the wind. Lilymist pricked her ears after a bit of walking, "What's that?" she asked hoarsly, "Is that the river? The Babbling Brook?" she squinted, wondering if her eyes had deceived her. Her eyes widened in horror, "We've been going the wrong way this whole time!"

Flamestep's tail drooped in disappointment, "Well, we'll have to find shelter there. There might be somewhere over in the rocks." Lilymist nodded, and they fought their way over. Suddenly, Lilymist stiffened. "Who's that?" she called out. She looked closer at the two Riverclan cats that were approaching them. The first, she recognized as the Riverclan deputy, Northernlight. The other was the Tom from the Gathering. "Where you two out here hunting, too?" she called out to them, motioning for the Riverclan cats to join her and her mate. "Here, we can shelter under this rock!" Flamestep had already begun to clear out the snow.

Northernlight let out a loud groan at the sight of two ThunderClan cats. "Please, please tell me there is somewhere else we can go. Please!" She moaned to her brother. The brown tom just grinned at her.

"Oh poor little Northy has to actually interact with other cats! Such sacrifices you make dear sister for our safety! Its almost heart breaking!" Meowed the tom dramatically, a paw draped over his ears to express mock sorrow. Northernlight's eyes flashed in a rare show of childishness as she swiped the paw out from under her brother. The tom fell with a yelp into the cold snow and glared at his sister muttering curses under his breath. The she cat scoffed as she raised her head challengingly as she stalked towards the ThunderClan cats. She paused before the brook, making sure to stay on the RiverClan side and glared over at the cats. "How do we know we can trust you?" She questioned watching the two cats with suspicion.

Clearly not as suspicious as his sister, Freezingwind tread carefully over the frozen brook to where the ThunderClan cats were and started to help the other cat clear out the snow. He glanced over at the she cat and gave her an ironically sunny smile. "Don't mind her. If she wasn't that paranoid then she would never make a good deputy!" He meowed cheerfully as he could hear the faint sound of his sister shrieking at him.

Lilymist waited for the Riverclan cats to approach them. "They probably dont want to talk to us." Flamestep grumbled, "Riverclan cats are always snooty, they wouldn't want to come over here." "Nonsense." Lilymist mewed, flicking her tail.

The accusation Northernlight made made Lilymist purr with amusement and Flamestep bristle, "Well, it's trust us or freeze to death. Your choice." she called. Flamestep, on the other hand, stood up and walked to the Border, facing Northernlight, "You're lucky we're offering to help you, you mangy fur-ball!" he spat. Lilymist hurried over there quickly, "I'm terribly sorry about him." she mewed apologetically, giving Flamestep a harsh, exasperated look. She waved her tail, purring with amusement at Freezingwind's comment. "Yes. Why don't you come over here, it's sheltered and we have fresh-kill." she invited the two cats. Flamestep lashed his tail and stalked away to the cave, disappearing inside it.

Northernlight bristled and hissed at the tom but staying firmly on her side of the border. She had half a mind to brave the storm and try to find RiverClan camp once more in all the snow. "And you better be glad I don't come over there and get your fur mangy with blood!" She snarled, her pelt standing on end. The she cat then scoffed at the ThunderClan she cat's words but still refused to move. Every fiber within her body was protesting at accepting help from ThunderClan of all clans. A clan filled with stupid, useless cat who lacked the ability to form a battle plan if their lives depended on it. The only reason they still had territory was because of their physical strength.

Freezingwind was all for going with the ThunderClan cats but because of his sister's great reluctance he paused, his tail drooping in indecision. The tom looked between the two she cats for a moment before leaping over the brook to where his sister stood firmly.

"Please go in the cave, North. I can see you shaking and I don't want to have to drag you back to RiverClan. Nor do you want to explain this to Mysticfog. Think about it. Would you rather stay with some ThunderClan cats for a few hours or be stuck in Mysticfog's den for a few days?" Freezingwind knew his sister well. Appealing to her logical side always did the trick when it came to such a case.

Northernlight eyed her brother momentarily before scowling at him. She leaped over the brook and glided past the other she cat making sure to keep up her veil of superiority. She staked into the cave and scoffed at the other black cat. She pointedly started to clean her pelt of snow without a care in the world.

Freezingwind sighed amused at his sister's childish antics before following her into the cave. "So what are you two doing out in such a storm?"

Lilymist watched the two Riverclan cats join her and Flametsep under the rocks. "Well, we didn't intend on getting stuck out here. We wanted to go get prey, and I charged after a squirrel. So we got kinda lost, and here we are. I'm Lilymist, by the way, and this is my mate, Flamestep." she flicked her tail, pointing to her mate. Flamestep grunted, not looking up from the mouse he was eating. Lilymist rolled her eyes, "I'm sorry, he isn't usually such a pain in the tail, he's grumpy when it's cold out."

Freezingwind listened to the she cat, Lillymist explain what happened to them and chuckled slightly at their similar situations. "We have the same story. Wandered too far for some rabbits and just got caught up in the storm." Freezingwind explained kindly.

"Not true!" Northernlight immediately protested. "We knew exactly where we were the entire time. We just underestimated the storm. He thought we still had a few minutes before it got really bad." Northernlight correctly coldly, not wanting to sound like she had no sense of direction.

Freezingwind shot his sister a look but then gave Lillymist a look of understanding. "At least yours isn't like this all the time. North is like that constantly." He complained loudly, eying his sister warily. "by the way, I'm Freezingwind and this is Northernlight." He added almost like an after thought.

Lilymist nodded, "Yes, this storm makes it pretty hard to navigate, especially if you go hunting." she purred in amusement at Northernlight's protest.

"Yes, I suppose I am lucky," she laughed, "Normally he's quite friendly." Lilymist turned to Flamestep, "Come on, Flamestep. You can't sulk forever." She mewed, beckoning him with his tail, "Come say hello." Lily blinked when he heard their names, "Oh, yes, I remember you! You're that cat I met at the last Gathering! Nice to see you again!"Flamestep grudgingly got up and sat next to Lilymist, "Hi." he muttered gruffly.
